Welcome!
Hi, I’m Brice! I am a person-centered therapist who enjoys working with kids, adolescents, and adults. My goal is to help clients recognize their unique value while navigating and overcoming obstacles that may be standing in their way. For me, building a strong therapeutic relationship means deeply understanding the lens through which you see the world. I believe you are the expert of your own story, and I feel truly honored to walk alongside you in this work.
When you share your innermost thoughts and experiences with me, I see it as a tremendous act of trust. My role is to support you in achieving your goals, offering insights to help sharpen your awareness, and creating space for healing and growth.
I genuinely love being a therapist because I care deeply about helping people. There is no greater gift than witnessing a client achieve their goals, move through challenges, and find relief from the weight of what has been impacting their mental health.
I work with clients who are experiencing anxiety and/or depression, as well as clients who have been diagnosed with a major mood disorder, such as bipolar disorder. I also enjoy supporting people who are navigating life transitions, relationship challenges, identity exploration, or who are interested in career changes and career exploration.
In our early sessions together, I usually ask whether you’ve experienced trauma in your life. Many clients respond with, “What counts as trauma?” My answer is simple: anything you wish to unpack in therapy that felt traumatic to you – whether it happened recently or in childhood, it counts. Trauma can impact the way you view yourself, others, and the world, and it may feel important to discuss or process. At the same time, there is never an obligation to focus on trauma unless that feels important to you.
In that regard, as a person-centered therapist, I believe you should direct much of what we discuss in session. That said, if past trauma appears to be influencing your present-day thoughts, emotions, or behaviors, part of my role is to help you notice those connections in a safe and supportive way.
Whether you are seeking trauma therapy in Durham, NC or prefer the flexibility of online therapy for trauma, depression, anxiety, or life transitions anywhere in North Carolina, I am here to support you in exploring your goals and creating meaningful change.
A Little More About My Approach
I believe that every client deserves a safe space where they are met with empathy and unconditional positive regard. My goal is always to support what is in your best interest, guided by my ongoing clinical evaluation of your needs.
That said, I also recognize that endless empathy alone may not always be the most helpful approach. IFor some clients, it can be important to shift gears into a more structured style of therapy, such as Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). DBT is especially beneficial if you’re struggling with regulating emotions, navigating relationships, or tolerating distress.
I like to be transparent about this because DBT can feel quite different from person-centered therapy! It tends to be more structured, and the process may look and feel different in session. But it can also be incredibly effective. Many of the clients I’ve worked with have described their experience with DBT therapy in North Carolina as life changing.
If you’re reading this and thinking you might be a good fit for DBT, that’s wonderful, I’d be happy to support you. Whether you’re seeking dialectical behavior therapy in Durham, NC or prefer the flexibility of online DBT therapy across North Carolina, we can work together to find the right approach for you.
How we do therapy will always be an ongoing conversation between us, and the approach or modalities used can be adjusted based on what you need!

My “Big Three” therapeutic focus areas include:
Communication
Communication is a huge part of life and therefore an important aspect in therapy. For many people, communication can look different depending on context, neurotype, or comfort level. Communication isn’t just about spoken words; it includes body language, written expression, movement, tone, and even silence. All of these are valid ways of expressing ourselves.
In therapy, we start by building a genuine connection. Through that connection, we’ll explore the ways you naturally communicate and how those approaches shape your relationships, boundaries, and overall sense of well-being. My goal is not to “fix” how you communicate, but to affirm your authentic style while helping you strengthen the tools you need to have your needs met.
Together, we’ll also look at your support network and the meaningful relationships in your life. Are you able to communicate your needs in a way that feels safe and understood? Are others honoring your boundaries? Are you in relationships with people who do honor you, and make you feel safe and understood? Are there things, like people-pleasing or passive communication styles, that may be getting in the way of getting your needs met? Exploring both verbal and non-verbal ways of interacting with the world can increase self-awareness while also validating your lived experience and neurotype.
LGBTQIA+ Celebratory Therapy for Individuals, Couples, and Families
As a member of the LGBT+ community myself, I love working with queer, trans, and gender-diverse clients! I believe there’s something about being part of the LGBT+ community that inherently allows a level of understanding, empathy, and connectedness, Clients I’ve worked with in the past have shared that they were looking for a therapist who was ‘family’ because it’s easier to speak freely about certain topics with someone who identifies as gay.
Starting therapy can be stressful as it is – it’s my goal to make sure that you feel comfortable as we begin this journey. I also have significant experience working with transgender, nonbinary, and gender-diverse clients and am passionate in offering a gender-affirming and celebratory space. This may mean exploring identity and what it means to you. This may mean helping you to navigate the social, medical, legal, or physical transition process. I am happy to author letters for gender-affirming care, and help connect you with resources as well!
I have worked with gay, lesbian, and queer couples in therapy, kids and adolescents who are exploring their gender, or who identity as transgender, and individuals just generally questioning their sexuality and gender identity. I appreciate the opportunity to work with people at any stage of identity exploration and I recognize that for some people, simply having a space to be their authentic self is meaningful. I am happy to provide that space.
Clients seeking a more structured therapy approach to achieve a specific outcome
While this doesn’t apply to the majority of people I see for therapy, I do enjoy offering more structured support for clients who are seeking it. For instance, this may be someone who is seeking ADHD coaching, or those who are experiencing more challenges with emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness and may be interested in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy!
Although I love a more client-centered approach, I am including these more structured services in my Big 3 list because I have had clients who request this, and who can see the difference that implementing strategies associated with ADHD coaching or Dialectical Behavioral Therapy can have on their lives in real time. For these clients, those moments can be truly profound.
From my perspective as the therapist, it’s rewarding when a client reports “My house is actually organized, finally! I just had to break it down into smaller bites instead of looking at it as this massive undertaking, and using some of the techniques we discussed, I’m happy to report, I actually did it!” Or when a client says, “The unhealthy part of my brain immediately wanted to blow up my relationship by doing this, but I paused, thought about opposite to emotion action, and instead I did that opposite behavior to what my knee jerk reaction was going to be, and it ended up working out!” While I can’t take credit for the organizational strategies I teach clients or for Opposite to Emotion Action, a concept from DBT that I promote, when clients tell me that their lives are going better because they’re implementing these skills in their daily lives, and they are feeling so much better because of it, it always feels good. Because ultimately, I want my clients to succeed, and to build strategies, skills, and ways of approaching their world that feel good for, validate, and benefit them long after our work together has ended.
