Welcome!

Hi! I am Dr. Beata, and I can’t wait to meet you!

I see all human beings as inherently capable and resilient. You are not broken and there is nothing wrong with you — you’re navigating a world that sometimes makes thriving harder than it should be. Whether you’re facing a new life challenge or trying to heal old wounds, I am with you and we are going to navigate this together. No judgment, no platitudes. Just support.

We all possess unique strengths and capabilities based on who we are at our core. Sometimes, these qualities can help us achieve all our goals; sometimes, they can prevent us from moving forward. These barriers may be within our control, or far outside of our control. No matter the obstacles in your way, I am dedicated to helping you build upon your strengths to live the life you want to live.

I also know that it can be hard to open up to someone you barely know in a therapy session. My promise is to always meet you where you are and provide a safer space that is tailored to you, and your needs.

A Little More About My Approach

My clients often describe me as warm, compassionate, and authentic. I tailor therapy to fit you—not the other way around. From trauma recovery to anxiety, identity exploration to tough life transitions, I use evidence-based approaches and create an individualized plan aligned with your goals. Because what you want, is what matters.

Our work together might involve skills-building, deep processing, or simply having a safer space to land, talk, cry, or laugh!

And therapy, while hard, does not always need to be serious. Sometimes we will laugh, smile, or even tell jokes. We will always, ALWAYS, celebrate your successes, no matter how big or small. Because that is my goal – to make sure you are leaving our therapy session feeling a little more confident, and more like the person you know you are, even if they may be a little lost, a little scared, or very tired.

I am open for individual therapy sessions with child, adolescent, and adult clients in North Carolina and Virginia. I am also available for comprehensive neuroaffirming evaluations, forensic or court-ordered evaluations, or to author letters of support for gender-affirming care.

If you’re ready to start therapy—or even just curious—email me to schedule a free 20-minute consult. I’d love to help you feel more like yourself again.

My “Big Three” therapeutic focus areas include:

Trauma-Focused Therapy

Trauma can show up differently and at any point for anyone. Sometimes it shows up after going through a harmful experience or witnessing a disaster; sometimes it rears its ugly head in experiencing the grief of someone we’ve lost. Regardless of its source, trauma of all types can have a sinister effect on your day-to-day life.

Trauma can cause you to lose your place in conversations or forget to complete tasks at work. Trauma can turn harmless things, sometimes even things you enjoyed, into things to be avoided at all costs.

Trauma can keep you on edge, and maybe even ready to fight back at any point. This uncomfortable feeling of being hyperaware, tense, or on edge can cause problems in your relationships. Trauma can also make you feel like a different person or feel like you are living your life through a filter. Traumas can keep you up at night, like a monster lurking in the corner. Trauma, no matter the size, can sometimes hold you as a prisoner of your mind with nothing but darkness surrounding you.

Trauma may show up at any time, but it doesn’t have to last forever. Did you know treatment for trauma, especially treatment targeting thoughts, behaviors, and feelings surrounding the trauma, is some of the most effective psychotherapy developed? Research-backed trauma therapies offer powerful relief, and I’m here to help you find your way forward—on your terms. We’ll unlock your strengths, find safety again, and yes, celebrate every step you take.

I have been truly amazed by the clients I’ve worked with who have been able to break free from their traumas, and I would love to have the opportunity to help break you free from yours.

LGBTQIA+ Celebratory and Gender-Affirming Therapy

I fiercely believe in providing care that affirms queer, trans, and nonbinary clients, and am mortified and appalled at more recent or current attacks on queer, trans, and nonbinary folks. LGBTQIA+ affirming and gender-affirming care is life-saving healthcare and should be a fundamental right to all people. This is non-negotiable in my mind.

It is my sincere hope the therapeutic space can provide whatever support you need. Whether you are navigating relationships, managing anxiety or depression, further exploring identity, or simply seeking support in a world that often fails to celebrate your existence—I will hold space for you. Whether you want to talk about your cat or your clothes, your partner(s) or your passions, I want to hear it and I want to meet you.

Life Stressors and Adjustments

“I am in awe at what our bodies can hold. We must lighten our loads. Survival is not the end goal for liberation. We must thrive. We must rest.” – Tricia Hersey

Little in life is certain. What is certain is the many changes and stressors people face across their lifespan. At times, things can be going really well and at others, life can seem like too heavy of a load for us to carry. Changes may be positive and exciting – like graduating, getting a new job, starting a relationship, having kids, or moving to a new place. But excitement lives in the same family as anxiety, and any big change can have an impact on your mental health. And differently stressful are the unexpected or unplanned life stressors, like losing a job, a relationship ending, or grieving over the loss of a loved one.

I included the above quote from Tricia Hersey as a reminder that surviving the heavy loads or stressors life hands to us is not the end goal. In order to truly thrive in life, we must learn how to rest. This touches on my hope for all of my clients as they navigate the stressors or adjustments life throws at us.

At any given moment, there is lightness and heaviness, a good and a bad, in everyone’s life. Learning how to lighten our load can help us get through the stressful times; but finding the balance is the key to thriving. In therapy, we will work on finding ways to lighten the load those tougher times bring. I have found using principles from acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), and dialectal-behavior therapy (DBT) to be increasingly useful for clients in these situations. We may pick and choose what we like from the above approaches, or we may explore other ways too – such as body-based treatments, mindfulness approaches, and more.

We will all experience life stressors and changes. Together, we will navigate these shifts, manage stress, and rediscover what grounds you. Therapy is not just about surviving—it’s about learning to rest, regroup, and thrive.

Get to know Dr. Beata:

I grew up in Chicagoland, but I have fallen in love with the Raleigh-Durham area. There is no shortage of things to do, and I love going out to try new things. Whether it be attending a pottery class at the local arts studio, or mountain-biking at one of the many trails in the area, I am always trying out new creative and energetic hobbies. When I am not out exploring, I love to curl up with a good book and my two cats, Pumpkin and Patches. Another thing I love about Raleigh-Durham and the Triangle area of North Carolina is the weather – my indoor and outdoor plants have never looked better!
