Authenticity is key in healing. I strive to show up authentically in session, and want you to do exactly the same. This may mean I curse a little, you may see a cat or three, and I am known to drop a witty one-liner here and there. This may mean you show up to our telehealth session without shoes, on your couch, and with your dog by you. That’s cool! As long as you’ve got a private space and good internet to dive into our work together, feel free to show up comfortable, and let the healing begin.
As a queer-identified provider, I love supporting other members of the LGBTQIA+ community in whatever their needs and goals might be. Sometimes this may be related to identity-specific exploration and concerns, but oftentimes we’ve just got some shit to sort through, and want help from someone from a shared community.
Struggling in a relationship, feeling unheard, misunderstood, or invalidated? Have a lot to say, but really not sure how to say it so they will hear you? I am here to help – whether it is to offer you support as you navigate these difficulties or to support you and your partner(s), friend, or family members through difficult conversations, relationship low-points, or transitions.
Have you experienced a loss, and are feeling stuck, numb, or gripped by grief? Grief truly sucks. It hurts. A lot. And I can sit with you in the hurt, and I won’t offer any of those annoying platitudes that just make you more hurt and angrier.
Have you experienced one or more traumatic events, and are ready to feel less tense and on edge, sleep better, and trust yourself again? Let’s work through it, together, and get you back to feeling like you.
Are you starting to explore or better understand your gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, or romantic orientations, and looking for a safer space to explore these? Or, perhaps you are seeking a provider who can offer additional resources and referrals to trusted gender-affirming medical, mental health, and wellness providers to join you on your journey? Step into my virtual office, I truly cannot wait to meet you!
I also enjoy providing space for parents, partners, and other family members of LGBTQIA+ folx to ask questions and work towards being the best support for their loved one that they can possibly be, while honoring their journey, too.
Does it sound like we could be a good fit? Or, maybe you are wanting to learn a little more about Be BOLD Psychology and Consulting? Send me an email at info@beboldpsychnc.com ! I would love to know more about you and get you connected with whatever support you are seeking.
A little more about who I love to work with:
In addition to seeing individual clients, I provide family, couples, and relationship therapy. At this time, I am primarily working with adults, couples, and adult family members; however, I do work with children and adolescents (and their families) who have expressed or are exploring diversity in their gender and/or sexual orientation and are looking for a space to further explore these topics in a safe, developmentally appropriate way.
My “big three” therapeutic focus areas include:
Affirming support for queer+, transgender, nonbinary, and gender-diverse clients: I primarily work with transgender, nonbinary, gender-diverse clients and LGBQIA+ community members. Sometimes folx are seeking an LGBTQIA+ identified provider to process all “the life stuff” with. Trauma, anxiety, grief, relationship challenges, and life transitions are all common areas of foci in my work with LGBTQIA+ clients.
I am also glad to support clients on their journey to further explore their varying sexual, romantic, and gender identities and assist clients in pursuing goals that allow them to be the most authentic version of themselves. Sometimes that involves leaving unsupportive people behind, and creating space for amazing new supportive people who we will meet. Sometimes it means pursuing social, medical, and legal transition or congruence-seeking measures. Whatever your goals are, I offer a safer, affirming environment for you to be authentically you. I also enjoy supporting family members and partners whose loved ones are LGBTQIA+ and who might be seeking a space of their own.
In addition to individual, relationship, and family therapy with LGBTQIA+ folx, I facilitate an open and ongoing bi-weekly therapeutic support group for queer, transgender, nonbinary, and gender-diverse adults. Group is every other Wednesday from 4-5pm EST. Learn more here!
Trauma, Grief, and Loss: I know it can be incredibly scary and overwhelming to even think about opening up that box you nailed shut, put on the shelf way in the back of the closet, and left there for months, years, or even decades. That is why you will not be alone in this journey – we will open that box together. I utilize research-based approaches and travel alongside you as you work through past traumas and make links to how those traumatic experiences are impacting your mental and physical wellbeing today.
I also do a lot of work surrounding grief/loss, a specific kind of trauma that deserves its own unique approach to healing. I offer grief support in both individual and group therapy settings.
Couples, Family, and Relationship Therapy: “You never listen.” “I do everything around here.” “The spark is just… gone.” Relationships are fricken hard. Communication is hard. Listening is really hard. And no one teaches this stuff in school! No one tells us how to talk so others can hear us, but they sure make sure we know how to do the Pythagorean theorem just in case some casual geometry will be helpful when I am trying to get my spouse to load the dishwasher!
So, it is not your fault, and it is not theirs either. And, it is also not surprising that you feel deeply unheard, misunderstood, and maybe even resentful? I wonder if they do too? Maybe you are at your boiling point? Let me help!
I love helping partners move from feeling stuck, disconnected, and unheard to feeling excited, aligned, and deeply understood. Sessions will combine learning and implementing practical tips and tools to use in and out of session, in addition to providing you a space to be able to explore what is being left unsaid. As a member of your team, I will call in any teammate when I notice something occurring that is in opposition to the goals we established. I am active and can be directive as needed – plainly put, I will call out the stuff when I see it. But I won’t leave you there. I’ll help unpack, fold, launder, and repack it so it fits way better in your relationship suitcase. Let’s work together to get your relationship back to thriving, not just surviving.
Likewise, I enjoy working with families, colleagues, and even friends to learn and use new strategies to be able to work through tough problems, no matter how old or how new. Family stuff can be painful and tough, but you do not need to hold it in, or try to sort it out alone anymore. Reach out today and let me help! Plus, as a PSYPACT provider, I can work with couples, partners, and family members who reside in different states, so long as they are a PSYPACT state.
