About Sabrina

I am a Colombian-American bilingual (Spanish/English) Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Certified Clinical Supervisor.  My clients and I work holistically to address the effects of psychological distress on the mind and body and use an integrative, trauma-focused treatment approach specialized to meet their unique needs. We collaborate to re-discover the power of your voice, unearth your inherent strengths, improve the relationships you have with yourself and others, encourage radical self-acceptance as you learn to trust your intuition, again. As a fluent Spanish speaker, I connect with diverse populations and provide inclusive and accessible trauma specialized services, ensuring that language is never a barrier to wellness.

Vibe & Style:

You are invited to explore your personal history in a validating and inclusive environment. We will work together to understand how your unique life experiences and cultural dynamics have informed your feelings, thought patterns, actions, reactions, habits, inner dialogue, communication style and relationship dynamics. Through a trauma-informed, culturally inclusive, direct, empathic, and self-empowering approach we will meet your personal goals and help you feel the ease you deserve.

My big three therapeutic focus areas include

  • Healing from Trauma “Trauma is in the nervous system, not in the event.” – Peter Levine. Trauma
Do you feel like you are floating through your life, avoiding activities, relationships or already feeling disconnected? Do you push away your vulnerability, new experiences, describe yourself as a “people pleaser,” “socially awkward” or feel that other people’s needs are more important than yours? Does your pain make you feel like a burden? Are you high functioning, accomplished, a caregiver, or healthcare provider secretly masking your unmet needs, true feelings, or pain? Are you seeking solid ground and daydreaming about escaping from your life? Do you suffer from nightmares, flashbacks, react in ways that surprise you or others or numb out?If any of that speaks to you, you have found the right provider and I am very glad you are here. Though we cannot change the events in our past, we can change the way the past makes us feel & how it gets to affect our life. With trust & curiosity, we will examine the influence trauma had on your mind, body, and relationships. Our work will show us how you adjusted & survived and provide the map we need to help you feel whole and connected.
  • Re-Building Trust through Self-Acceptance: “A great deal of the chaos in the world occurs because people don’t appreciate themselves.” ― Chögyam Trungpa, Shambhala: The Sacred Path of the Warrior
Are you carrying around shame, deep guilt, patterns of self-punishment, unmet needs? Is your inner dialogue bringing you down? Do you find yourself clinging to others in relationships? Do you find yourself pushing people away when they show you care? Are you wondering why kindness gives you the ick? Have you felt left behind, ignored, avoided, unseen in your life? Do you struggle with making decisions– even simple ones like what to have for dinner? Does resolving conflict at work, in friendships, in any relationship bring you to a state of anxiety? Do you feel disconnected in relationships or like you won’t ever feel fully seen or loved?Rebuilding trust—both in yourself and in your relationships—begins with self-acceptance. In our sessions, we will explore your thoughts, feelings, and reactions without judgment. identify your triggers and implement resilience skills and healthy boundaries. We will work on increasing your self-awareness to better understand your moods and reactions and build resilience and compassion. We will enhance your communication skills, using exercises that promote active listening and assertive expression. This will empower you to articulate your needs more clearly, fostering deeper connections with yourself and with those around you.
  • Creating a Balanced Life: “Only the wounded healer can truly heal. (97)”― Irvin D. Yalom, Lying on the Couch
Do you compare your lived experiences and perspectives and think others have information you don’t about how to be happy? Are you feeling stuck? Have you tried therapy before and feel like it didn’t work for you? Do you think you just have to grit your teeth and figure it out on your own? Do you think seeking support means you are sick or broken? Do you sometimes think the way you feel is as good as it gets for you?Healing is nonlinear and does not have an end point. Instead, healing is a dedication to practicing change through recognition of patterns in yourself and in your relationships with others to increase compassion and strengthen your connection to your life. You are perfectly made and your unique perspective is valued and deeply needed in this world. We all have ups and downs. A balanced life makes the ups just enough for gratitude and the discomfort of lows more tolerable. Together we will learn what your balance looks like and all uncover all the strengths you carry. Together we will design a healing practice that brings you a balanced life. It’s not impossible and you absolutely deserve it.

Get to Know Sabrina:

I am an avid reader and always have been. I interned at state newspapers and was a yearbook editor in high-school. I studied visual arts and writing as an undergraduate, where I focused on poetics and critical theory. I am usually reading a fiction book alongside a clinical text. I love language, especially etymology. Knowing the origin, evolution and history of words and how they are used to express our human experience is pure magic to me. When I’m not reading, I’m looking at stars, making art, playing pool, listening to music, trying a new restaurant, laughing at memes, on a long hike or unironically watching reality TV shows. The dating or survival shows are gold and always make the art of clinical practice come alive, IMO 🙂
