In Jennifer’s own words:
I am a queer, neuroaffirming, AuDHD (Autistic ADHD) clinician who works primarily with individual Autistic clients ages 6 through adult. I also have a limited number of openings for Autistic and mixed-neurotype couples, as well as parents and partners of Autistic individuals.
My approach is person-centered, strengths-based, and LGBTQIA+ affirming. I support clients in exploring their identity, understanding how they experience the world, processing trauma and anxiety, addressing unmet needs, and navigating life and relationships.
My style is nurturing yet empowerment-focused, sensory-sensitive, somatic-oriented, and IFS-informed. As an Autistic-centered clinician, I often incorporate client interests into the therapy space.
There are multiple valid ways to experience and interact with the world, and neurodivergent ways of being are valued here. I show up authentically to empower clients to do so, too – and because therapy is relational, and healing and growth happen when humans feel safe.
Jennifer’s “big three” therapeutic focus areas include:
Autistic-Centered Therapy:
Navigating life as an Autistic person can be challenging. As an Autistic individual myself, I understand Autistic strengths and the barriers clients may experience on a daily basis. My goal is to support clients in reducing the mental health impacts of those barriers and increasing their sense of well-being.
Autistic-Centered Therapy is a strengths-based approach that values and focuses on Autistic ways of experiencing and interacting with the world. As an Autistic-centered therapist, I can support you in exploring Autistic identity and culture, decreasing shame and internalized ableism, processing Autistic trauma, increasing self-esteem, identifying and accommodating unmet needs, unmasking and finding spaces to unmask, and navigating school, work, and relationships.
ADHD:
I understand that school, work, and tasks of daily living may feel out of alignment with the way ADHD brains thrive. As an ADHDer myself, I understand ADHD strengths and the barriers clients may experience when navigating life. I value tangential thinking, use fidgets alongside clients, and work to provide a space in which clients feel safe(r) showing up as their authentic selves.
Whether you are looking for support in overcoming obstacles, processing shame, increasing self-compassion, or navigating life, I help clients identify their individual strengths and work with their brain to develop solutions to meet their needs and increase their sense of well-being.
When people think of trauma, they think of what we call Big T Trauma. If these experiences are negatively impacting your life, I can support your healing journey in ways that work for you. In addition to other forms of trauma, neurodivergent folks often experience identity-specific trauma related to the way they play, communicate, learn, socialize, and work.
Maybe you have years of being chronically misunderstood, blamed, or feeling left out. Maybe you feel like an outsider and that no one else is like you. This type of trauma is equally impactful. If you need support, I can provide a nurturing, judgment-free space to help you process your experiences, increase self-compassion, and feel more empowered.
If you have been seeking a neuroaffirming therapist who wholeheartedly embraces neurodivergence, celebrates individual strengths, and creates an empowering and nurturing space for growth and healing, Jennifer Perry Newman is the clinician you’ve been waiting for. Together, you can explore your identities, process trauma and anxiety, and be empowered to live your life with authenticity!
